Ashwagandha Root Tincture — Made With Certified-Organic Ashwagandha Root

‼️ What It Is
Ashwagandha is the root of Withania somnifera, a low, woody shrub in the nightshade family that grows in the dry regions of India, the Middle East, and North Africa. The name is Sanskrit — ashva (horse) and gandha (smell) — and it describes both the sharp, earthy smell of the fresh root and the old promise that the root gives you the strength of a horse. It is classed in Ayurveda as a rasayana, a rejuvenating tonic, and in modern herbal language as an adaptogen: a plant that helps the body hold steady under stress rather than pushing it in one direction. Our tincture is made from the dried, cut root only. The root is where the withanolides live; the leaf is a different medicine, and we do not use it.

Why the root, and why dried. The withanolides — the compounds that do the adrenal and nervous-system work — are concentrated in the root; the leaf carries a different chemistry and is not the traditional medicine. Dried, because the withanolides survive drying intact, and a dried root puts more plant in each drop than the same weight of fresh root, which is mostly water.

📋 A Short History
Ashwagandha has roughly three thousand years of continuous use behind it. It appears in the foundational texts of Ayurvedic medicine, where it was given for weakness, wasting, poor sleep, and to the elderly to restore vigor. It reached the West slowly, through the trade routes and then through the colonial-era botanists, and became a serious subject of laboratory study only in the last forty years — the same era in which “adaptogen” became a word people knew.

A tincture is the oldest way of preserving a plant’s medicine in a bottle. Alcohol pulls the active constituents out of the plant, holds them in solution, and keeps them from spoiling for years. Apothecaries were making alcohol extracts by the sixteenth century; by the early 1800s, tinctures were standard preparations across America, and the great American herbal pharmacies of the nineteenth century built their practice on them.

✨ What It May Do — A Body-Wide Tour
Stress and the adrenal response. This is what ashwagandha is best known for, and it is where the modern evidence is strongest. Ashwagandha supports a healthy stress response — helping the body keep cortisol in range, taking the edge off a wired, anxious feeling, and building resilience for the next stressful thing rather than wearing it down. People describe it as feeling steadier, not sedated.

Sleep. The species name somnifera means “sleep-bringing.” Ashwagandha does not knock you out the way valerian can; it supports the reason you are not sleeping — a racing, overstimulated nervous system — so that sleep comes more easily and stays deeper. Taken in the evening over several weeks, it is one of the herbs people reach for when they are tired but wired.

Energy, stamina, and physical performance. The “strength of a horse” reputation has held up. Ashwagandha supports energy and stamina, recovery from exertion, and the slow rebuilding that follows illness or overwork. Athletes use it for endurance and recovery.

Thyroid. Ashwagandha supports thyroid output and nudges it upward. For someone running sluggish, that is welcome; for someone whose thyroid already runs hot, it is the reason for a caution below.

Reproductive health, both sexes. In Ayurveda, ashwagandha is the classic vitality herb for men, supporting libido, sperm quality, and healthy testosterone; it has also been used for women whose desire has faded under chronic stress and exhaustion.

Mind, memory and mood. Ashwagandha supports focus, mental stamina and memory, and a steadier mood through long stress. It is not a stimulant. The clarity comes from a calmer nervous system, not a faster one.

Immune tone and inflammation. The withanolides are studied for their effect on inflammatory signaling and immune balance. Traditionally, the root is a convalescent’s herb, given to bring a run-down person back to strength.

Blood sugar and metabolism. Ashwagandha supports healthy blood sugar and metabolism as part of a broader approach, largely through the cortisol connection to belly fat and appetite.

Joints and muscles. Traditional use includes aching joints and tired, tense muscles; the root is warming and building rather than cooling.

Skin, hair and beauty. Ashwagandha’s beauty reputation runs entirely through stress. Cortisol thins skin, breaks hair, and slows healing; supporting a calmer stress response is what ashwagandha does for the mirror. It is also a traditional Ayurvedic skin tonic, used in pastes for dry, rough skin.

💪 Full-Strength
This tincture is Full-Strength — certified-organic dried ashwagandha root in 200-proof alcohol used neat, straight from the drum, with no water added. Nothing else is in the bottle. We customize to need, and the extraction ratio is printed on the label so the strength of the bottle is something your customer can read, not take on faith. An extraction ratio is the weight of plant to the volume of liquid it was steeped in; the less liquid per gram of plant, the more plant in every drop. We print it because Full-Strength ought to mean something you can verify.

💜 In the Bottle — Violet Glass, Child-Resistant Dropper
This tincture comes in a 1 oz (30 mL) bottle — the one size we offer — in Miron violet glass, the Swiss-developed biophotonic glass used by the makers who take shelf life seriously. Ordinary clear, amber, and blue glass let in most of the visible light spectrum, and visible light is what degrades a plant extract — it drives the oxidation that fades color, flattens taste, and breaks down the active compounds. Violet glass blocks the complete visible spectrum. What it allows through is a narrow band at the violet end, together with UV-A and near-infrared- the frequencies that Miron’s own testing shows preserve the contents rather than degrade them. The practical result, which Miron has demonstrated against clear, amber, and blue glass over months of side-by-side storage, is that what is in the bottle stays what it was when it was bottled. It also gives the bottle an unmistakably premium presentation.

Ashwagandha’s withanolides are light- and oxygen-sensitive; in clear or amber glass, they fade over months.

The dropper is a child-resistant cap: a closure that must be pressed and turned to open, over a glass pipette with a graduated bulb. The pipette lets you count drops exactly, which is how every dose on this page is written, and the closure makes a bottle of high-proof alcohol far harder for a curious child to open. It is resistant, not proof — keep it out of reach.

🌱 Made With Certified-Organic Botanicals
This tincture is made with certified-organic ashwagandha root, grown and handled under the National Organic Program and traceable to its certificate. The alcohol is a 200-proof neutral spirit, used neat. We buy only certified-organic botanicals for this line.

👀 Pairs Well With
  • Passionflower for anxious, restless days and a racing mind at night — ashwagandha does the slow, deep work over weeks while passionflower handles tonight. Both can be taken together; put both in the same small glass of water. When pairing, hold ashwagandha at its full dose and use passionflower at the lower end of its range.
  • Valerian when sleep is the whole problem. Ashwagandha in the morning, valerian at bedtime, so the two are not stacked at the same hour.
  • Guarana for people who want the steadiness of ashwagandha and still need a morning lift. Ashwagandha with breakfast, guarana with it or shortly after; never guarana after early afternoon.
  • Ginger as a companion for anyone whose stomach is sensitive to ashwagandha — a few drops of ginger with it settles that.

When taking two or three tinctures together, the rule is simple: each herb keeps its own dose; you do not add the drop counts up into one bigger number, and you take the pairing at the times each herb wants (morning herbs in the morning, night herbs at night).

🛍️ Selling It
Why It Sells Now. Ashwagandha is the herb that taught American shoppers the word “adaptogen.” It went from an Ayurvedic specialty to one of the most recognized botanicals in the country inside a decade, carried by the stress-and-sleep conversation that now dominates wellness, and it shows no sign of receding — it is in gummies, powders, lattes and drinks, most of them under-dosed and none of them one plant in a bottle. A Full-Strength, organic, single-herb root tincture is the premium end of a category the customer already understands. You do not have to explain what ashwagandha is. You have to explain why yours is better.

Who Buys It.
The overworked, the under-slept, and the wired-but-tired — which is most of your adult customers. Women 30–60 managing stress, sleep, and the perimenopausal years; men interested in stamina, performance, and testosterone support; anyone who has bought ashwagandha before in a capsule and is ready for a stronger form. It is also a natural first purchase for a customer new to tinctures, because the herb is familiar and the benefit is felt.

💰 How to Sell It.
Open with: “This is the one herb for the person who has been running on adrenaline for too long.”

Tell them the root’s name means “smell of horse” and the promise was the strength of one — then tell them the modern evidence is on cortisol and sleep, and that it takes eight to twelve weeks, so they should buy it with that intention. Explain the ratio on the label in one sentence: it tells them how much root went into the bottle, which most brands never say. Say plainly that it is a nightshade and that it nudges the thyroid upward — the customer who hears a seller volunteer the cautions trusts everything else that seller says.

Sell it with Passionflower for the anxious-and-awake customer, Valerian Root for the one who cannot sleep, and Guarana for the one who still has to perform tomorrow. Ashwagandha in the morning and either sleep herb at night is the easiest two-bottle sale in the line.

👣 Take the Next Step
Order twelve and open one. Take it yourself for the full twelve weeks — you will sell it better once you know what steady feels like — and put the other eleven on the shelf with this page’s story behind them. Stress is not a mood. It is a physiology, and it can be trained.

Ingredient Deck: Organic Ashwagandha Root (Withania somnifera) Extract. Other Ingredients: Alcohol.

Do not use the product if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.

Shelf Life: A high-proof alcohol tincture is one of the most stable preparations in herbal medicine to begin with: 200-proof alcohol is a preservative as well as a solvent, and at that strength microbes cannot survive in it. In violet glass, stored tightly closed in a cool, dark place, the result is exceptionally long shelf stability when properly stored. Heat and repeated opening work against it; light does not reach it. It does not need refrigeration. If sediment settles over time, that is plant matter, not spoilage — shake and use.

To optimize product shelf life, products should be stored in a cool (77° or cooler) / dry place with minimal exposure to direct light. Keep lid tightly closed.

📌 How to Use:

  • Adults: 15–30 drops, one to two times daily.
  • Teens 16 and over: 8–15 drops, once daily.
  • Sensitive individuals: start with 8 drops.

Under the tongue is the traditional way to take a tincture: put the drops in a teaspoon of water, hold it under the tongue for thirty to sixty seconds, then swallow. At this strength, the teaspoon of water is what carries it under the tongue comfortably and lets the whole dose absorb there. Otherwise, a small glass of water, juice, or warm (not hot) tea is fine — ashwagandha does not mind company. Shake well before use.

Take it for 8–12 weeks, then two weeks off before repeating. An adaptogen works on the scale of weeks, not doses — give it the full run.

When to Take It

Morning, evening, or both. Ashwagandha will not keep you up; taken at night, it helps sleep. Taken in the morning, it steadies the day. Split the dose if you are taking it twice.

With Food or Empty Stomach

With food. A large dose of ashwagandha on an empty stomach can turn the stomach. Breakfast and dinner are the natural times.

Do You Need a Binder?

No. Ashwagandha is a tonic, not a cleanser. It does not act on organisms or release anything that needs to be carried out of the body, so there is nothing for a binder to do.

Contraindications

  • Ashwagandha is a nightshade. If tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, or eggplant disagree with you, this root will too.
  • Not for use in pregnancy.
  • Not for anyone whose thyroid is already overactive — ashwagandha pushes thyroid output upward.

Warnings

  • Adds to the effect of anything else that makes you drowsy when taken in large evening doses.
  • Large doses can cause stomach upset or loose stools; take with food and lower the dose.
  • Stop two weeks before surgery — it can add to the effect of anesthesia.
  • Keep out of reach of children. Contains alcohol.
